AHEADD: Achieving in Higher Education with Autism/Developmental Disabilities
AHEADD is a private community organization that that provides support for students in higher education with learning disabilities, high functioning autism, aspergers, attention deficit disorder and non-verbal learning disorder. ARC of Virginia
ARC adovocates for the rights of individuals with intellectual and developmental diabilities. Services include: infant and child development, adult day support, after school services, summer day program, vocational services, residential, respite care and camps.

Centers for Independent Living
CIL's are non residential centers run by VADRS that provide support, services and advocacy to individuals with diabilities. Services include: information and referral, peer counseling, independent living skills training and individual and systems change advocacy.

College Autism Spectrum
College Autism Spectrum (CAS) is an independent organization of professionals whose purpose is to assist students with autism spectrum disorders, and their families. They help students navigate and explore college options, and assist before, during and through the college process. 

Community Alternatives

HEATH Resource Center at the National Youth Transitions Center
* Since 2000, the HEATH Resource Center has served as a national clearinghouse on postsecondary education for individuals with disabilities, managed by The George Washington University Graduate School of Education and Human Development .
* Now, The HSC Foundation has partnered with the George Washington University to expand the content of this resource and to designate it as the official resource website of The HSC Foundation’s National Youth Transitions Center.
* The HEATH Resource Center is a web-based clearinghouse that serves as an information exchange of educational resources, support services and opportunities. * The HEATH Resource Center gathers, develops and disseminates information in the form of resource papers, fact sheets, website directories, newsletters, and resource materials.
* HEATH Resource Center is a collaborative effort among a network of professionals in the areas of disability, counseling, transition and postsecondary education. 

 

JobTips
A free program designed to help individuals with communication, socialization, and learning differences explore career interests, seek and obtain employment, and successfully maintain employment. Individuals with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) may find this site particularly helpful, as would individuals with learning differences, ADD, speech or language disorders, and other areas of exceptionality.  JobTIPS addresses the social and communication differences that might make identifying, obtaining, and keeping a job more difficult for you.

JobTIPS is designed for direct use by individuals with ASD and other learning differences.  However, this program (including all of the printables, assessments, and videos) is also suitable for delivery by educators, family members, clinicians, mentors, and job coaches.

National Center on Secondary Education and Transition
The National Center on Secondary Education and Transition (NCSET) coordinates national resources, offers technical assistance, and disseminates information related to secondary education and transition for youth with disabilities in order to create opportunities for youth to achieve successful futures.

Think College
Doors to colleges are opening for people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities in many different ways all over the country. This website is designed to share what is currently going on, provide resources and strategies, let you know about training events, and give you ways to talk to others. The information is for transition aged students as well as adults attending or planning for college. It provides resources and tools for students, families, and professionals.

University Students With Autism And Asperger's Syndrome
Student support is a new initiative aimed at providing specialist support and guidance to students with Asperger syndrome and their place of learning. Advice and information is given by our consultants in helping to develop an understanding of the difficulties people with Asperger syndrome may face with regards to their studies
