Family Access to Medical Insurance Security (FAMIS)
This program was created to meet the health care needs of Virginia's uninsured children between the ages of 0 and 19 years, in working families that earn too much to qualify for Medicaid, but not enough to afford private health insurance.

FAMIS is Virginia’s health insurance program for children. It makes health care affordable for children of eligible families. There are no enrollment costs or monthly premiums for FAMIS. FAMIS covers all medical care needed to include:

Doctor Visits
Well-baby checkups
Hospital visits
Vaccinations
Prescription Medicine
Tests and X rays
Dental Care
Emergency Care
Vision Care
Mental Health Care

To qualify for FAMIS an individual must:

Live in Virginia and be a U.S. citizen or qualified alien
Be under age 19
Currently NOT have health insurance nor had any in the past 4 months (exceptions)
Not be eligible for any Virginia state employee health insurance plan
Not be eligible for FAMIS Plus (also known as Children’s Medicaid)
Live in a family meeting FAMIS income guidelines
